Leland William Shute, Jr., age 65, of Lee Drive in Stanford, KY, formerly of Syracuse, New York, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016 at his residence.  Born Tuesday, January 2, 1951 in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Leland William Shute, Sr. & Helen Louise Wood Shute.  His loving wife, whom he married January 15, 1972, is Catherine Chartier Shute of Stanford.  Leland was a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force, previously worked for Parks & Recreation in Palmetto, Florida, and was a member of the American Legion Post #345 in Stanford.  Leland enjoyed fishing, bowling, and was known as a simple man who loved taking care of his family.  He received great joy in watching his only granddaughter grow up, graduate high school, and give birth to his only great-grandson, whom he was called “Papa Nag”.

In addition to his wife, he leaves behind one son, Christopher L. Shute of Stanford; one daughter, Michelle Willis of Stanford; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Wall (Johnny) of Stanford; one great-grandson, Jordan Edward Wall of Stanford; two sisters, Virginia Gauger (companion Dan) of Fulton, New York, and Lillian Czuba (Joseph) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service, with Full Military Honors provided by the Caswell-Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion, will be held 9:00AM Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.  Members of the Caswell-Saufley Post will serve as Active Pallbearers.  Jordan Edward Wall will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
