Bernard “Doc” Ray, age 86, of Sunset Avenue in Lancaster, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Landmark of Lancaster. Born Thursday, July 14, 1932 in the Buckeye Community of Garrard County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Lige & Ethel Murphy Ray. His loving wife, whom he married May 30, 1956, is Bonnie McWhorter Ray of Lancaster. Doc was a US Army Veteran; and served during the Korean Conflict. Doc worked at Rexnord Corporation, for 23 years, and also worked as an electrician, plumber, and mechanic. He was a member of Gilberts Creek Baptist Church. Doc loved collecting fire truck and model cars.
In addition to his wife, Doc leaves behind two sons, Ricky Dale Ray (Elizabeth) and Bernard Louis Ray (Ann) both of Lancaster; one daughter, Teena Marie Hogue (Keith) of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Ashley Ray (Billy Bowers), CJ Ray of, and Hannah Ray all of Lancaster; one step-granddaughter, Whitty Ray of Lancaster; four great-grandchildren, Chloe Petrey of Georgia, and Billy Bowers, Hunter Bowers, and Destiny Bowers all of Lancaster.
In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by four brothers, Homer W. Ray, Jennings Ray, Virgil Ray, and Cecil Ray (infant); and three sisters, Alberta Hurt, Christine Estes, and Evelyn Ray.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Friday, May 10, 2019 at Fox & Friend Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Browning officiating the service. Burial, with Full Military Honors performed by the Caswell-Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion, will follow in New Salem Cemetery. Kim McWhorter, Larry McWhorter, Wayne VonLinger, Dwight VonLinger, Greg Walls, and Jeff McWhorter will serve as Active Pallbearers.
The Visitation will be held 5-8PM Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the funeral home.
