Garland Hicks, age 87, of Waynesburg, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born Saturday, February 15, 1930 in the Quick Sand Community of Floyd County, he was the son of the late James & Ida Stanley Hicks. His loving wife, whom he married February 18, 1956 is Ardean Elliott Hicks of Waynesburg. Garland worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Southwestern Portland Cement Company in Fairborn, Ohio for many years. He was a member of Waynesburg Pentecostal Church, and loved to hunt, fish, and garden in his spare time.
In addition to his wife, Garland leaves behind one son, Jim Hicks (Rachel) of Waynesburg; one daughter, Angela Palmer (Richard) of England; two granddaughters, Hannah Hinds (Austin) of Stanford, and Shelby Hicks of Waynesburg; and two sisters, Irene Greene of Ohio, and Bonnie Conley of North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, Garland was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlene Stringer; six brothers, Lester, Chester, Rex, Edward, Charles & Joe Hicks; and four sisters, Gertrude Bowling, Andrey Blankenship, Clotene Vanover, and Violet Spencer.
A Funeral Service will be held 2:00PM Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home with Bro. Junior Skaggs & Bro. Monty Carney officiating the service. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery.
Visitations will be held 5-8PM Saturday, November 25, 2017 and 12Noon-2PM Sunday at the funeral home.
