Kenneth E. Sims, age 90, of KY Hwy 501 in Waynesburg, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017 at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford. Born Sunday, January 23, 1927 in Kings Mountain, he was the son of the late Walter Green & May Edna Leach Sims. His loving wife, whom he married February 23, 1952 is Wilma Faye (Robertson) Sims of Waynesburg. While attending Kings Mountain High School, he played basketball. Kenneth was a US Army Veteran who served in the Korean Conflict and was a Bronze Star & Purple Heart Recipient. Kenneth worked for the Railroad and previously owned Robertson-Texaco Gas Station on KY Hwy 501. Kenneth was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Kenneth enjoyed attending NASCAR races.
In addition to his wife, Kenneth leaves behind one brother, Leonard Sims of Indiana; two sisters, Betty Jane Merrell of Hebron, Kentucky, and Jean Gooch (Paul) of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister-in-law, Vicki Robertson of Waynesburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Lilburn, Keith, Roy, & Sherman Sims; and three sisters, Gladys Carman, Izora Ratliff, and Lela McKinney.
A Funeral Service will be held 3:00PM Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Mullins & Bro. Tim Jones officiating the service. Burial will follow in KP Hall Cemetery. Jimmie Sims, Terry Graham, Conley Sims, Dennis Sims, Lindell Sims, Randy Rayborn, and Bradley Ratliff will serve as Active Pallbearers. Paul Gooch & Garland Johnson will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
Visitations will be held 6-8PM Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the funeral home and 12Noon-3PM Sunday at the funeral home.
