Mary Jane "Janie" (Roberts) VanHook

Mary Jane “Janie” VanHook, age 80, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Jean Waddle Hospice of Lake Cumberland Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.  Born Monday, November 21, 1938 in Stephensport, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Phillip Sherman & Dollie Marie Basham Roberts.  Her loving husband, whom she married January 4, 1958 and preceded her in death March 8, 2010 is the late George Edward VanHook, Sr.  Janie worked as a Seamstress, at Palm Beach and Cowden’s Manufacturing in Stanford for many years.  She also was devoted to caring for her husband for over 20 years until his passing.  Janie was member of Eubank Baptist Church, where her and her husband previously served as Youth Leaders at the church.  In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and canning in her spare time. 

Janie leaves behind two sons, Pete VanHook (Diana) and Steven VanHook both of Waynesburg; one daughter, Marsha VanHook of Somerset; five great-grandchildren, Abbie Day, Gracie Day, Madison Morgan, Steven VanHook, and Carson Mounce; one brother, William Sherman Roberts of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Georgia Katherine Kennedy of Mount Washington, Kentucky, and Barbara Branscum of Eubank, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends who mourn her passing. 

In addition to her husband and parents, Janie was preceded in death by three grandsons, Trace VanHook, Dale VanHook, and Josh VanHook; one brother, George Junious Roberts; and one infant sister. 

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Hughes & Bro. Shelby Reynolds officiating the service.  Burial will follow in White Lily Cemetery in Pulaski County, Kentucky. 

The Visitation will be held 6-9PM Monday, March 4, 2019.
