Alyce Hazlett Houp, age 75, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023, at UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, following a brief illness. A native of Lincoln County, Kentucky, she was born Saturday, January 18, 1947, to the late Joseph Abraham & Georgia Ann Phillips Hazlett. Alyce was the widow of the late Don A. Houp, who preceded her in death August 15, 2006. Alyce retired from American Greetings and was a faithful and active member of Fairview Baptist Church. Alyce was very active in her community, serving on the Lincoln County Historical Society and on the Logan’s Fort Foundation. Alyce lived a life of meaningful acts of love and service, as modeled after Christ, in preparation for the day she would meet her Savior. Alyce loved her family, church family, and everyone in which she came in contact.
Alyce leaves behind one son, Don Houp II of Stanford; two brothers, Harry Hazlett (Rosemary) and Jack Hazlett (Eva) both of Stanford; one sister, Nellie VonGruenigen of Stanford; companion, Tom Grimes of Stanford; dog, Bella; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors who mourn her passing.
In addition to her husband and parents, Alyce was preceded in death by one daughter, Lori Ann Houp; five brothers, Jimmy Hazlett, Joe Hazlett, Johnny Hazlett, Lloyd Hazlett, and Alvin Hazlett; and two sisters, Elizabeth Hazlett Drury and Florence Hazlett Mason.
Public Visitations will be held 5-8PM Wednesday, January 18, 2023, and 9-11AM Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Fairview Baptist Church.
The Public Funeral Service will be held 11AM Thursday, at the church. Bro. David Gambrel & Bro. David Conrades will officiate the service. The Funeral Service will be recorded and uploaded to her memorial page on the funeral home’s website.
Burial will follow in Pleasant Point Cemetery. Steven Hazlett, John Hazlett, Harry Allen Hazlett, Shawn Ingram, Billy Jack Hazlett, Christopher Hazlett, Warren VonGruenigen, and Billy Zack Hazlett will serve as Active Pallbearers. Jeff VonGruenigen, Tony Hazlett, Tommy Mason Jr., Scott Hazlett, Kihm Hazlett, and Stanley Stone will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
