Iva Adington Young, age 84, of the Highland Community of Lincoln County, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Landmark of Lancaster. Born Tuesday, February 16, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Walter & Helena Parker Smith. Iva was a faithful member of Highland United Methodist Church, for over 70 years, and worked, for many years, as a Teacher’s Aide for Lincoln County High School. Iva loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed serving others.
Iva leaves behind her husband, Beverly “Bev” Young of the Highland community; three children, Debra Petrey (Dale) of Richmond, Kentucky, Diane Jeffries (Harold) of Stanford, Kentucky, and Glenn Adington (Jackie) of Waynesburg, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Jessica Scenters of Richmond, Jason Petrey (Alyssa) of Richmond, Kayla McGinnis (Andrew) of Hustonville, Kentucky, Jacob Adington of Waynesburg, Brandon Jeffries (Kimberly) of Stanford, and Rebecca Jeffries of Stanford; four great-grandchildren, Kalissa Scenters, Parker Jeffries, Creston McGinnis, and Kashton McGinnis; two sisters, Ida Mae Adams (Roger), and Ina Glass (Dennis) both of Kings Mountain, Kentucky; one brother, Marvin Smith (Willie) of Stanford; and several extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, Iva was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby Hurston Adington; and one brother, Walter “Buddy” Smith.
A Public Visitation will be held 12PM-2PM Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home.
The Public Funeral Service will be held 2:00PM Thursday at the funeral home. Bro. Andrew McGinnis will officiate the service. The Funeral Service will be live streamed on Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home’s Facebook page beginning at 2:00PM.
Burial will follow in Highland United Methodist Church Cemetery. Brandon Jeffries, Jason Petrey, Roger Adams, Marvin Smith, Walter Smith, Michael Glass, and Brian Glass will serve as Active Pallbearers.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID -19 regulations, face coverings must be worn by all in attendance for the Public Visitation and the Funeral Service; and social distancing guidelines must be followed.
