James A. Estes, 94, of Lexington, KY (formerly of Waynesburg) passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022 at U.K. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. Born Wednesday, February 15, 1928 in Waynesburg, KY to the late Lester and Molly Addington Estes, he was raised on a farm in Lincoln County, KY, and was a veteran of the United States Army (1950-1952) serving during the Korean War as a tank commander. Mr. Estes was a member of IBEW Union 183/369 for 65 years where he worked as an electrician. He was a huge U.K. Basketball fan and loved the outdoors. Mr. Estes was a member of Central Baptist Church in Lexington, KY.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Peggy Collins Estes of Lexington, KY; one son, Dennis Estes (Jackie) of Winchester, KY, a daughter, Debra Hayes (Bill) of Lexington, KY; and three grandchildren, Brian McKnight, Kelly Estes, and James Estes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Estes and Marvin Estes; and one sister, Ruby Samples.
A one-day service has been scheduled for Monday, July 25, 2022 at Barnett, Demrow, & FRIEND Funeral Home in Waynesburg, KY. A public visitation will be held from 12-1pm with funeral service beginning at 1pm. Mr. Gerald Goodlet will officiate the service and burial will follow at Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg. Casket bearers will be Bill Workman, Kevin Goodlet, Kenneth Ware, Gordon Samples, Cody Collins, and Steve Collins.
