Joann Harris Obituary

Joann Harris passed from this life on Tuesday March 15, 2022, while at home surrounded by her family.

Joann was born to Arthur and Lucy Copley Hoskins (both deceased) on Thursday March 7, 1935. She was the seventh of twelve children. She is survived by a brother, Boyd Hoskins of Liberty and a sister, Wanda Byrd of Stanford. Siblings deceased before her were Mable Morgan, Allen Hoskins, Carl Hoskins, Lillian Morgan, Morris Hoskins, Mary Ellen Morgan, Dorthie Lee, Laura Ruth Woodrum Lawson, and Genova K. Hoskins.

Joann was no stranger to loss or pain, having lost her mother at an early age, two husbands, two children, and multiple siblings. However, her life was full of joy, and she would be the first to tell you that love was worth the loss.

In 1949, Joann married Lelious Buis and together they had 3 children, Francis who passed suddenly in 2014, Rickie Buis of Liberty, and Faye Means who passed in 2005 after her battle with cancer. Lelious however, died tragically in 1953 and Joann was widowed at age 18.

Then in 1956, Joann married the love of her life, Cloyd Harris. They enjoyed 25 years together before Cloyd passed in 1982. Together they had 9 children. She is survived by Kay (Jimmy) Carey; Clinton (Sherry) Harris; Phyllis (Rick) Humes, Laura Jean “Jeannie” (Jerry) Siler; Vonda (Eddie) Young; Boyd (Shelly) Harris, all of Stanford, twins, Johnnie (Kim) Harris of Lancaster, and Bonnie (Paul) Todd of Corbin, and Billy (Susan) Harris of Stanford.

Joann’s greatest joy in life was her family, she was known by those that loved her as “Mawmaw”. Mawmaw leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren with two on the way, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews who adored her.

Joann loved the Lord and trusted Him with her life. Her family finds peace in knowing that she has heard “Well done, My good and faithful servant” and her eternal rest has begun.

Besides her faith and her family, Joann was an outstanding cook, and her grandkids would tell you that she made the best macaroni and cheese in the world. She also enjoyed reading and a variety of music from Elvis Presley to Ralph Stanley. She had a green thumb, and her house was always surrounded by the most beautiful flowers.

Services for Joann Harris will be Friday March 18 at 11 AM at Fox and Friend Funeral Home with Bro. Kerry Jones and Pastor Nathan Todd officiating. Visitation will also be at Fox and Friend Funeral Home from 5-8 PM on Thursday March 17. Burial will be at Rich Hill Cemetery in Casey County.

Pallbearers will be Bonnie Todd, Billy Harris, Phyllis Humes, Rick Humes, Kay Carey, Clinton Harris, Boyd Harris, and Eddie Young.

Johnnie Harris, Vonda Young, Rickie Buis, Jeannie Siler, and all her grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joann’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
