Larry Wayne Childers Obituary

Larry Wayne Childers, age 74, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.  Born Monday, August 30, 1948, in Waynesburg, he was the son of the late Kenneth V. & Rose Mae Jones Childers.  His loving wife, whom he married Saturday, December 6, 1969, is Irene Tolley Childers of Waynesburg.  Larry was a US Army Vietnam Veteran, who actively served 1969-1977.  During his time in active duty, he became well-decorated and earned the prestigious Purple Heart award.  After leaving the Army, Larry became a member of the Kentucky National Guard, where he retired in December 1996.  Larry also worked for many years as a welder.  Larry enjoyed bluegrass music, collecting instruments, making things, fishing, playing pranks on his family and friends, and watching westerns. 

In addition to his wife, Larry leaves behind four daughters, Jackie Cummins (Lewis) of Waynesburg, Tabitha Bullock (Terry) of Waynesburg, April Jasper (Jonathan) of Lancaster, Kentucky, and Kelly Stickler (Sammy) of Somerset, Kentucky; 14 grandchildren, Danielle Padgett (Chase), Kimberly Jeffries (Brandon), Carl-Lewis Cummins (Shelby), Royce Cummins (Karlee Caswell), Sara-Mae Smith (Jonah), Trey Cummins, Bryce Baker, Laurel Jasper, Will Jasper, Zachary Baker, Nate Cummins, Abby Jasper, Aiden Stickler, and Isaiah Stickler; 4 great-grandchildren, Reagan Padgett, McKinley Padgett, Parker Jeffries, and Caleb Jeffries; one brother, Kelly Paul Childers (Shirley) of Waynesburg; two sisters, Jeanette Caudill (Dodd) of Radcliff, Kentucky, and Helen Louise Childers of Waynesburg; and several extended family members and friends who mourn his passing. 

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Sims.

Public Visitations will be held 5-8PM Monday, April 10, 2023, and 11AM-1PM Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Pleasant View Baptist Church.

The Public Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Tuesday, at the church.  Bro. Brad King will officiate the service.  The Funeral Service will be live streamed on Larry’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website. 

Burial, with Full Military Honors, will follow in Double Springs Cemetery.  Carl-Lewis Cummins, Royce Cummins, Trey Cummins, Bryce Baker, Will Jasper, and Zachary Baker will serve as Active Pallbearers.  Chase Padgett, Brandon Jeffries, Jonah Smith, Aiden Stickler, Isaiah Stickler, and Nate Cummins will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
