Lloyd Eugene Estes, 82, formerly of Eubank, Kentucky, passed away at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center on July 11th, 2020. He was a resident of Stanford Care & Rehabilitation.
Born in Lincoln County on February 13, 1938, Lloyd was the son of Kern Madison Estes, Sr. and Cordie Renner Estes. He was a 1957 graduate of Eubank High School and married his late wife, Dorothy Carol (Williams) on October 3, 1958. They were married 60 years until she passed in October 2018. Lloyd was a longtime member of Pilot Baptist Church where his kindhearted leadership and hard-working spirit served the church in numerous ways — as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, groundskeeper, custodian, and Vacation Bible School volunteer.
Lloyd retired from Modern Vending of Somerset after nearly 50 years of service. He loved his family and church, and enjoyed UK basketball, reading his Bible, Bluegrass, and gospel music. He also loved animals, especially his dog Buffy.
Lloyd is survived by his three children, Ricky (Debbie) Estes of Science Hill, Ronnie Estes of Danville, and Sharon (Steve) Cummins of Crab Orchard, along with six grandchildren, Jill (T.J.) Barnett of Lexington & Jake (Samantha) Cummins of Huntington, W.V.; Joshua Estes of Somerset and Joseph (Whitney) Estes of Nancy; Bradley Estes of Washington, D.C., and Brian Estes of Science Hill. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, Aurielle, Andrew, Denver, Eleanor, Luke, and Landon, as well as one brother and sister, Kern Estes, Jr. (Clyda) of West Chester, OH, and Carolyn Belcher of Eubank. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Kern M. and Cordie Renner Estes, and one sister who passed in childhood, Elizabeth.
