Ova Marie Sims Padgett, age 85, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Kentucky. Born Monday, July 20, 1936, in Stanford, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Thelmar & Eula K. Shea Sims. Ova was the widow of the late Hurshel “Dee” Padgett, whom she married Saturday, November 27, 1954, and preceded her in death Friday, January 24, 2020. Ova was a homemaker and member of Miracle Temple Church. Ova enjoyed watching HGTV and Family Feud. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed washing dishes.
Ova leaves behind two sons, Joey Padgett (Gidget) and Rodney Wayne Padgett (Arlene) both of Waynesburg; four daughters, Darlene Padgett, Connie Padgett, Kathy Padgett, and Marilyn Padgett; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and one due soon; five sisters, Opal Hatter and Ocea Hatter both of Casey County, Kentucky, Ona Jones (Junior) of Waynesburg, and Oma Black and Ora Caudill (Jerry) both of Louisville, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ova was preceded in death by one son, Hurshel Padgett, Jr.; two daughters, Wilma Rice and Peggy Rogers; four grandchildren, Tina Marie Padgett, Joey Padgett, Joshua Scott Webb, and Bradley Counts; one great-grandson, Noah Stull; and two brothers, Delmer & Gilmer Sims.
A Public Visitation will be held 5-8PM Friday, July 30, 2021, at Miracle Temple Church.
A Public Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the church. Bro. Dale Sears will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery. Darlene Padgett, Connie Padgett, Kathy Padgett, Marilyn Padgett, Amy Lambert, Catherine Padgett, Marie Padgett, and Gidget Padgett will serve as Active Pallbearers. Joey Padgett, Rodney Wayne Padgett, and Ova’s grandsons will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
